Full job description
Overview
We are an established, ISO-certified custom steel processing and precision machining company in Birmingham, operating across two advanced facilities. We are currently hiring multiple CNC Machinists across junior and senior skill bands to support a highly dynamic, custom job shop environment. We are not a mass-production house; we specialize in high-mix, low-volume, one-off, and small-batch work supporting top-tier clients in Aerospace, Defense (DoD), commercial space exploration, and custom machine building.
This is absolutely not a button-pushing role. Our machinists own their work end-to-end, from complex setups on massive equipment to editing code and performing rigorous final inspections. If you have true job-shop DNA, excel at complex setups, and want the variety of a custom shop paired with the elite stability of a 50+ year industry leader, we want you on our floor.
Compensation
Depending on your skill level, you will be responsible for:
We are hiring for two primary profiles and will align your level and pay to your demonstrated capability.
Junior CNC Machinist
This profile is ideal for a machinist with strong custom-shop fundamentals who is ready to step up into larger, more complex work.
This profile is for an elite setup expert who can tackle massive, tight-tolerance, unproven parts that the shop has never seen before

Depending on your skill level, you will be responsible for:
- Set Up & Operate: Independently set up and run large-capacity 3-axis CNC mills (including large format double-column machines, indexable heads, etc.) to machine custom steel plates and heavy weldments.
- End-to-End Ownership: Run work from raw plate to finished part—setup, run, troubleshoot, inspect, and document.
- Programming & Editing: Read and interpret complex technical drawings and job travelers. Fluently read G-code and M-code to make critical edits and adjustments directly at the machine controller (FANUC experience is a major plus) to prevent crashes and optimize cuts.
- Workholding & Rigging: Build effective workholding strategies, including complex magnet setups (mostly ferrous metals, some aluminum). Safely operate forklifts and remote overhead cranes to maneuver heavy plates and massive workpieces.
- Precision & Quality: Hold tight tolerances ranging from +/- .005 down to +/- .0002, depending on customer specs. Perform rigorous self-inspections at the machine using your own precision manual tools (micrometers, box calipers, slide dial calipers, etc.).
- Maintenance: Conduct routine machine maintenance, calculate proper speeds and feeds for varied materials, and troubleshoot dimensional or tooling issues on the fly.
We are hiring for two primary profiles and will align your level and pay to your demonstrated capability.
Junior CNC Machinist
This profile is ideal for a machinist with strong custom-shop fundamentals who is ready to step up into larger, more complex work.
- 3+ years of machining experience, specifically in a custom job shop or steel processing environment
- Ability to run your own setups on 3-axis mills and handle medium-complexity parts.
- Solid print reading skills and confidence using manual inspection tools to verify your own work.
- Ability to read G&M code, make basic offsets/edits at the control, and navigate machine variables safely.
- Must possess your own basic set of machinist tools.
This profile is for an elite setup expert who can tackle massive, tight-tolerance, unproven parts that the shop has never seen before
- 7+ years of advanced job shop experience, ideally with large-format machining (e.g., Doosan, Yama Seiki).
- Mastery of complex blueprints and advanced GD&T application.
- Deep fluency in G-code / M-code with the ability to rewrite or heavily edit programs at the controller to save a part or optimize a run.
- Expertise in calculating speeds and feeds for specialty metals, heavy material removal, and complex workholding (including large magnetic chucks).
- Bonus Points: Experience with large format precision grinding (Blanchard / Mattison surface grinding) or familiarity operating within an ISO-certified/Aerospace environment.
- Health, Dental, and Vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match AND Profit Sharing
- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Paid Maternity/Paternity leave
