Full job description

The CNC Set-Up Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and machining complete parts from detailed technical drawings using the most efficient processes and equipment available. This role requires strong technical expertise, independent problem-solving ability, and ownership of the machining process from print to finished part.

This is a higher-skill role within the CNC Turning department and requires hands-on experience with program edits, setups, and process optimization.

Shift:

  • 1st Shift: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 3:45 PM – 12:30 AM (+10% shift differential)
  • Overtime: Available (including Saturdays)

Responsibilities

  • Program and edit CNC lathe programs as needed
  • Perform full machine setups including tooling selection and workholding
  • Load parts, operate controls, and verify first-piece quality
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints and customer specifications
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments
  • Optimize machining processes for efficiency and quality
  • Support engineers and customers during design and production stages
  • Coach and assist operators when needed
  • Maintain strict adherence to quality and safety standards
  • Work independently with minimal supervision

Requirements
  • Minimum 3+ years CNC setup and programming experience (Turning / Lathe required)
  • Strong blueprint reading and shop math skills
  • Proficient with measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of machining theory and shop procedures
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
